Anger is a secondary emotion!

Anger is rarely the first emotion that a person experiences. Anger is seen as a secondary emotion. It is a reaction that people develop in order to protect themselves from primary emotions. Anger often does not feel like a choice. It is a habit that is learned and practiced over many years.  It is a habit passed down from parent to child or older sibling to younger sibling.  Anger is a reaction that people develop in order to protect themselves from primary emotions such as depression, despair, hopelessness, and powerlessness. The primary emotions are based on pain and fear. It is much easier and feels much more powerful to act out in anger than it does to feel confused, afraid, and powerless.  Counseling can improve tolerance to frustrating situations that trigger anger, as well as help you find out why you are angry and begin the process of making positive life changes.
